Anthrax’s new album, Cursum Perficio, arrives with a decade of anticipation—and a title that raises questions about what comes next. Fresh from touring with Iron Maiden, bassist Frank Bello joins Metal Mayhem ROC’s Jon Verno to discuss the record, life on the road and the bands that still make him a fan.
The conversation moves from new music to stadium stages, with Bello sharing stories from both sides of the curtain.
Cursum Perficio and Anthrax’s Next Chapter
From the opening atmosphere of “The Long Goodbye” to the contrasting personalities of the album’s deeper tracks, Bello discusses the choices behind Anthrax’s latest release.
The album’s title also opens a larger conversation about the band’s future. What does this completed journey mean for a group already looking toward touring in 2027? Bello addresses that question alongside the realities of keeping Anthrax on the road.
Iron Maiden Sidestage and an Emergency Behind the Kit
Playing with one of his favorite bands gave Bello plenty to talk about—including a Los Angeles sidestage story involving Scott Ian, John Bush and his still-hoarse voice.
There was also a very different challenge in San Antonio: Charlie Benante couldn’t perform, and Raven drummer Mike Heller stepped in. Bello takes the conversation inside the small backstage room where the musicians had just 50 minutes together before showtime.
Eddie Van Halen, Rush and Geddy Lee
Recorded on the sixth anniversary of Eddie Van Halen’s passing, the interview includes favorite records and concert memories.
Bello also reflects on Rush’s 50-something tour with Annika Nilles—and recounts a backstage moment when Geddy Lee stood just feet away.
