Destructor’s 2026 album, Tales of Glory, brings Dave Overkill back to Metal Mayhem ROC for a conversation about new music and the practical realities of keeping an underground metal band moving.
Joining host Jon Verno, the vocalist and guitarist connects Destructor’s present work with decades of songwriting, international shows, and commitments beyond the stage. What does continuing to make records and play shows actually require after 41 years?
Inside Tales of Glory
Verno’s observation that the new songs have room to breathe opens a discussion about melody, speed, and the expectations attached to Destructor’s sound.
“Wolves at Your Door” brings Judas Priest into the conversation, while “Never Take Me Alive” provides another starting point for exploring the album’s dynamics. Dave discusses contributions from current and former members, his approach to arranging songs, and the distinction between a record with a theme and a full concept album.
The conversation also looks ahead to rehearsals and potential live opportunities in 2027.
Maximum Destruction, Band Survival & Ticket Prices
Revisiting Maximum Destruction leads back to Destructor’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame appearance with Night Demon and the tribute to Sacred Few singer Sandy Kruger. Dave also recalls finally reaching Japan after an earlier missed opportunity.
From there, Verno raises a question he recently put to Frank Bello: how do bands make money? Dave offers Destructor’s perspective on funding music while balancing work and family.
Metallica ticket prices and a memorable Iron Maiden concert bring the discussion around to the audience’s side of that equation: what makes a night of live music worth the expense?
